g'day guys,

Ive recently noticed this problem with my EL XR6, this grinding noise has come about after i had fitted BA 18 inch alloys with hub adapters and Pacewmaker Comp extractors, and im not sure which one of these is contributing towards the problem.

It seems that this really rough grinding noise is made when i make a hard left turn, and especially when i am powering out of the said corner. It can be felt somewhat through the steering wheel also.

Im thinking it could possibly be the extractors fouling on the steering arm (because they sit so god damn close) and the movement of the engine torquing pushing it even harder up against the arm.

It could also be something to do with the spacer and new 18's...

im not sure, has anyone encountered this problem before?

wheel bearing is either stuffed or loose,,take eveything off clean and grease and refit.

an easy way to find out if it is the 18's

put your orig rims back on the front
if the noise is there well it not the 18's


the extractors should not sit that close to the steering arm!

I'd do what disco frank said to do.

I know that with my 17" wheels, on the left hand side when at full lock to the right rub on the inside front wheel arch, and when doing a full lock either way the inside of my tyre rubs on my sway bar. I only know this because you can see where the rubber from the tyre has polished these spots. I don't get any grinding noises tho.

You should be able to see if your tyres are rubbing on anything under there by having a good look.

thanx for your replys, yeh ive taken the 18's off just to have a look for places where they grind but can only see shiny parts on the outside guards which make a completely different noise. i might have to go put the 16's back on and take it for a squirt... ill keep you posted.

see if the extractors are touching anything, wheels rubbing should be easy to spot just by looking at your new tyres and rims and seeing if there are any marks on them
