Hi all,
My BA fairmont has developed this strange wobble in the rear end. I believe that it may be the result of some serious potholes i hit earlier this year. I have since replaced the rear wheels and tyres but the problem is still there. An analogy of what it feels like would be when the panhard rod breaks on a live axle diff and the car can wobble side to side with respect to the diff (although not quite that bad). On a nice smooth motorway, it drives nice and straight but as soon as the road isn't the best or when corners come into play, the car handles rather poorly. The steering doesnt pull to any side and the wobble seems to come from the rear of the car - not the front. It is standard ride height and running 18's and 235 tyres. I am going to take it to a suspension place but would like some ideas first (as last time i took a car to pedders, i got a list back 2 pages long and a quote to fix everything that was more than my old car was worth in total)! When i took the wheels off, i tried to shake the wheel whilst it was jacked up and there was no play in the bearings either. I am stumped. Any help would be great! Thanks. |

even put the car into 1st gear and let it run slowly and have a look at the back to see if anythin is running out.

Must be a common fault with the BA as I drove my mates BA Mk1 XR6 and its got the same thing, rear end moves all about and Im pretty sure its gota be the bushes.
