Hi team, just want an understanding of what people are prefering in terms of pads on DBA 4000's. I have solid(non drilled) wiper slot rotors for my car, but am yet to decide on what pads I want..
The XT already has the brakes installed with Lucas pads, and seems to work alright, but I don't often drive it, so it's a bit of a lazy ladies drive. I drove my mates WRX the other day who has same rotors, but Ferodo pads. I thought it pulled up well but not all that good when they were cold. It was fine after the first stop or there abouts, but I was using the brakes more in the WRX than I would in my car.. I tend to engine brake using the clutch and gears more than I use my brakes. In essence, I want pads that will pull the car up quickly if/when needed but want them to be consistent from cold to hot temp ranges. Any opinions will be well considered. Cheers team, happy motoring.

Why do you use the gearbox to slow the car down?
Your gear box is cheaper than brake pads hey? Even in race cars, we use the brakes to slow the car down, not the engine. Anyways, I tried Formula Ferodo's, yes they take one good stop to come up to temp. So they are not good for the street. I now run Bendix ultimates, not as good when warm, but much much better when cold. Also if you are looking at decent brake performace, no matter what pads you run, get steel braided lines, big improvment. |

Mr EL XR6 5sp , I can only agree with you. I did exactly the same with my EB and the improvement was significant. I am very happy with the result.

I recently changed my pads to Bendix ultimates From Redex less dust so obviously a harder pad this has now caused my discs to Blue and now I have shudder are the pads too hard? If I go slotted rottors will they suit the Bendix pads better than standard rotors?

Good to hear a bit of variance between applications!
The pads on my mates WRX are the Ferodo Formulas also. I tend to engine brake due to driving style, similar to driving our race car.. granted you will generally have to use brakes more regularly in the race car, but that is due to much higher constant driving speeds. I obviously have to use brakes on a full stop and occaisonal speed changes, but in general rev matching and gear ratios/clutch satisfy the speed changes. If I were to blow an engine, burn a clutch, or chew out a gear in the gearbox, i'll change it.. I just want good consistent pads for the occasions where I need them. Bendix ultimates tend to glaze in our race car and require changing generally before our third race. We are using Lucas pads currently but have vastly different rotors. Tickford 6: what sort of performance do you find with a cold stop, and stops when warm? Mitch911: What sort of cost were the EBC pads, I have heard good reports and would be keen to have a set on my car. Cheers for all opinions currently posted and any more yet to come. Happy motoring!

The only thing that concerns me is that some of these high end brake pads may need to be warm before they actually start performing. Which means poorer brake performance for normal driving.

from my own experience bendix ultimates = shudder after <10,000 k. I would really like some pads that work great and don't glaze the discs or eat them out for that matter. Am I asking too much?

Mitch911, Even if $130 works out to wholesale prices, I would say they'll soon be on my car. I'll probably get reconditioner discount on total cost, or get them from our racing sponosors, but if you think they're good in all conditions I'm willing to pay a premium.
Thanks for all opinions on the various options members are using, it is very valuable when considering my outcome! Happy motoring!
