good work. Sounds like a decent setup you got there. Should make for some serious poke off the line. Your 60ft times will improve too I would imagine.

ok so the 3.45 is a shiit up grade for me
i think i like the sound of the 3.73 ratio ,as i will not be doing any strip racing and im only after a better than standard upgrade. but if im wrong let me know as my diff knowledge is minimum cheers |

Yes 3.73s is a good upgrade to go to. You'll certainly feel the difference on take off. Could even induce a little wheel spin off the lights?

Why you knowledgable blokes are here,
Ive got 3 diffs in different wrecks im pretty sure the ratios are as follows give or take a few number as there hard to read, none are LSD. 3:08 GLi auto 2:92 EA s pac T5 (an idea why such tall gearing) 3:25 EB 2 fairmont auto Its only for street use and i dont want it to be reving hard on 100 but still wont the poke off the line, am i being greedy? im sure theres a diff that does both. Would you recomend either of the diffs i have matched up with EL hybrid engine EA T5 A few recomendations with rough 100km/h revs And as long as it launches harder than my 3:08 Regards, Michael

Go the 3.25 ratio one. You will notice an improvement in take off with that ratio with a 5 speed and rpm at 100kph should be around 1800-2000rpm I would guess in 5th gear.

I have 3.27 LSD with a T5 and rev just under 2000RPM (1990ish RPM) at 100km/hr. With the automatic I think it was hovering the 1750 mark at 100km/hr.
Also, I believe the EAs had tall gearing due to the shorter first gear for the T5s and also back then with the 3 speed auto, you needed the tall gearing so you don't rev the s**t out of the hydraulic auto in third gear while cruising at 100km/hr. Ahhh fun times. phong =P~

It will also depend on whether or not you have your speedo transducer fitted to suit the diff ratio too.
You can get these from the vehicles you take the diff from or from a wrecker. This will give you an accurate reading of your speedo.

i had 4.11's fitted behind my auto yesterday and i dare say, they are still quite tame...... !!
Defintely has alot more poke, but 1st gear still winds out to 70kph @ 5700rpm, and does 2300rpm @ 100kph. So i can assure you that 4.11's are not "wild" or "unstreetable" at all !!! To have ratios like a manual XR with 3.45's and have 1st gear go to 60kph, and 2nd gear @ 100kph, you would need something close to 4.5 diff gearing in an auto falcon. |

Im not limited to the diffs i have, but it would save money using one of course.
So if i put the 3.23(not 3.25) behind the EA T5 along with this "speedo transducer" you speak of ill do 1800- 2000rpm at 100km/h and say red line 1st gear at 60km/h? Where is the speedo transducer located because the fairmont has no dash. Am i able to put a 3:45 LSD out of a ef ghia which has abs into my non abs car? Regards, Michael.

The speedo transducer is located on the side of the gearbox. Its connected to wires which connect to your dash's speedo. The unit has a cog with a set amount of teeth on it to suit a certain ratio. Changing your diff ratio will always put your speedo out. So getting the right cog or transducer along with the rim size is what will make your speedo read correctly. A wrecker will assist you with the transducer choice.

Michael, Just use the lowest ratio you have until you want to spend money.
I had an EF Gli before this, they have the 3.08 diff. I now have a Ghia with a 3.23 diff. I don't really notice much difference. Fordfairmont, sounds like the 4.11's would be excellent for me behind the auto. I expect the acceleration would be much better compared to the 3.23 gears! I reckon I'll go down that path with an LSD center too. What are you doing in regards to the speedo signal though? AFAIK ford only supplied speedo gears to suit down to 3.45 gearing. I dont fancy mucking around with correctors.... |

I beleive you can get a correct cog made up to suit the gearing past a 3.45 ratio. A few places do it in SA. Not sure where interstate.

Guys after using the websites provided by FordFairmont who i thank, this is what i came up with.
The following information will only be help to some with the following: EA T5 gearbox Ratios: XF-EB 6 Cyl 3.5, 2.14, 1.39, 1, 0.73 And Tire diameter in inches of 25.2" (215/60 15) RPM @ 100km/p give or take 5km/h It was ALOT neater in notepad should be able to understand it but, 3.45 seems the best for me with good gearing but still only 2080rpm at 100km/h
