lol sorry, I missed the part about you wanting to use a "standard diff". Well in that case, a 3.45 would be your best bet like others have said.

Well, there was the 6 cyl Leyland P76, and the wagons and utes of the Holdens, like FC, FE, FB, EK, EJ, EH, HD, & HR. They had 3.9 gears. An 83 Toyota Corolla, 4KC engine with auto,& with a BW diff had 4.3 diff gears. Nissan Skylines, some had 3.89's, some had 3.7's, then the Pintaras of the same shape had 4.11's. Go to a wrecking yard, get under some cars, fitted with BW diffs and check the tags on the cover plates, have a look.

That is most interesting, I didn't think of other models with BW diffs.. it need not be a falcon... cool.
FWIW my diff has two plates on it, the one on the filler says: Spin Resistant Diff as approved by blah blah blah.. so I'm assuming spin resistant is ford speak for limited slip... The other plate has "Ratio 3.23" and P/N 90DA-4005-AB written on it. (the 4005-ab part was faint so it might be different but the rest was exact) So now I know my ratio, and I'm presuming, my model number. My workshop book says that the 2 and 4 pinion single spinner are called the 75 or 78 series respeectively.. It doesn't mention the LSD model but I'm guessing it's 90.. ![]() So.... are any of the centers interchangeable, or must I look for the exact same with a different ratio? rgds Frank |

Just found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Falcon-LSD- ... dZViewItem It answers one question, I don't need an XR6 diff to get a 3.45 ratio S pack GLI will do it.. but my next question is, would it be even worth going from 3.23 to 3.45? that isn't all that much lower is it? rgds Frank |

it says that but 3.45 didnt come untill edxr...
its a eb xr6 diff and unless its been changed it would have 3.23. remember these cars are now over 15 years old and people change ratios. i have on the last 2 falcons i sold! the tag still read 3.08 and it had 3.45 anyway it doesnt matter what car its from just dont buy one unless your 100% sure of the ratio.. i got sucked in 2 years ago and brought a diff from the wreckers and it had the 3.45 ratio tag and when i opened it up it had 3.27 ratio.. and i saw the car it came out of (ef xr6). |

Now I took my OE LSD centre ( had 2.92's) 2 pinion 25 spline, and bolted the 3.27 gears to it. I have also fitted my OE axles & brakes. I made spacers out of alloy to keep using my lower trailing arms for the EBII diff housing. I used this housing for the fact that I can change my diff oil without taking the back cover off to change the diff oil. One thing to look out for is the diametre of the ring-gear. The Aussie built Jap cars use BW diffs, so some of them are too small to fit a Falcon centre & housing. I am not to sure about this, but I haven't got to see it for myself yet, but apparently, you can't use a centre from a 2.77 geared diff on anything lower geared than that, ie: 2.92, 3.23, 3.27, 3.45, 3.7, 3.89, 3.90, 4.11, etc....

Ok, now I see... so it can't be an S pack, at least not a standard one.
sigh,, can't ever be easy or cheap... ![]() sigh... all I want is to lower my gearing from 3.22 to 3.45 3.9 4.1 or whatever... Have any of you guys heard of a BW 90 series? |

I did some googling for 90 series BW and only found one reference to it in a CAMS pdf file as an accepted Diff.
Seems it is way rairer than the 75/78 series.. does anyone know anything about them? I ask because my manual covers only 75/78 and google has nothing i could find on the 90 series either..specifically I want to know about it's innards so I can go looking for a new center. rgds Frank |

thats pretty close.. from the early x series(not sure about xa/xb/xc). but xd/xe/xf-ea2 is 75 series(even chrysler valiants) and( some holdens but not sure if holden used 75 or 78 series). and eb1 - au have 78 series. there are alot of cars out there that use the bw 75 and 78 series.. just have a look and you will be suprised.. some mitubishi vans.nissan r31 skyline/pintara and some commodore (not exactly sure what models coz they are s**t)lol has bw aswell.. i know there is more..i cant think of them all at the moment |

hmmm, its definately a 90 series... so what the heck is it?
This is the relevant line from the cams manual relating to EA and VN. Quote: VN/VP Commodore: Only the T5 manual five-speed Borg-Warner gearbox as fitted by GMH as original equipment may be used (Production option M78-V6). EA/EB Falcon: Only the T50D (Part No. 87DA-7003-AA, 87DA-7003-AB, 90DA-7003-AA, 91DA-7003-BA) manual five-speed gearbox as fitted by Ford Motor Company as original equipment may be used. " The whole thing is here: (google html version) http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:hk ... =firefox-a If they are that unknown, perhaps I should be looking at a whole diff rather than just the center...
|

actually, I just read that again.. and it seems to be referring to 5 speed gearboxes... why would it say that on the side of my diff. (not the exact same, bit the 90DA part.)
This is nuts.. has anyone else got a late 90ish EA ghia? if so, what does you diff say? |
