Hi everyone..

Firstly, other than the theory of what they do, I know next to nothing about Diffs so please bear with me.

Just wanted to ask.. do all Fairmont's or Fairmont Ghia's come with LSD's?

Pretty sure mine is a LSD (it's an EA Ghia/ED engine XR6 cam.) but with a high ratio as it's nearly impossible to chirp it (auto) and spinning the wheels on asphalt without massive use of foot brake is near on impossible. I don't really want to do burnouts, I just want to know I could.. First gear is so tall on the EA auto that it's off the line performance is dreadful.

What standard fords came with 3.4ish diff ratio and LSD? Figure if I know what models to look for, I can start watching for wreck fords.

(I'm guessing my current diff ratio is 2.7ish to 1.)

Any thoughts??

3.23 and 3.45 lsd diffs common throughout e series, models mainly ghia's and xr's. To put in general and short words.

If you EA is a series 1, then it will have 2.77's, if its a series 2 EA, then it will have 3.08's.
It was common for an EA Ghia to have an LSD.

I don't know if its a series 1 or 11.. but it was made in 11/90 so I am guessing series 11.

I really want to boost standing start performance, but without completely destroying top end economy.... so I thought around the 3.4ish mark..

yeah.. I'm inclined to agree...

I was hoping that they come out in other models as well.. every time an XR series gets wrecked, the prices of just about everything are doubled just because its an XR...

Its a shame they never made a Ghia sports model.... :-)

Oh well, have to start watching the Quokka.

Well, so far in the week since I put the ED engine in, all I've done to the motor is put an XR6 cam in.

i have a set of Genie interference extractors here, and I've ordered a 2.5 inch exhaust, when they are in, I may find my bottom end pickup has improved a little.

After that I'm going to custom fabricate a new airbox , heat shielded, bigger, and getting extra air from behind indicator and with a big cone K&N in it. Should be noisy as hell, but very easy breathing and cool air.

After all of that, I may be happy with off the line performance..
(unfortunately all these mods are more likely to affect performance higher up... but maybe it'll help.)

have most of the stuff already, so won't be too long to find out..
The XR6 cam made a heap of difference starting about around 3000rpm... didn't help much off the line at all.

Early XR8's from EB to ED had 3.27 gears.

So would it be fair to say that only model that came standard with the 3.45 LSD standard is the EBII-ED XR6 ??

and most ea ghia and spac had lsd
standard
only the 3 speed autos had 2.77

yup...

mine is the 4 speed auto... 2.92 sounds about right .. (sadly)

I'm thinking of jacking up the back and looking at the tag tonight actually..

according to my workshop manual, LSD Diffs had red filler bolts and standards were black.. but since I'm jacking the back up anyway, I can just turn the wheel and see what the other one is doing.
