It'd have to be taller than the auto coz the t5 has one over drive...

I though autos only could go as far as lockup which is 1:1 isn't it?

no, there is a gearbox after the torque convertor, 3rd is 1:1, 4th is an over drive.
you should have a tag on the diff fill plug regardless of whether it is an LSD or not.
EA-ED do not have the ratio on a sticker in my experience, thats an EF/EL thing.

oh they are an over drive are they? There you go learnt something today then... :D

Well it definitely has no tag under the filler plug, it wouldn't be somewhere else would it...

I thought only LSD's had that tag saying bascially its a slip resistant diff so use special oil...

yeah its an overdrive in the strict sense that it is an overdriven ratio, but it's really just a 4th gear.
the torque convertor can still lock up in 4th...

nah if theres no tag theres no tag, it must have been taken off/ripped off.
that tag specifies the ratio, yes it also says whether its an LSD, and whether its a 2 pin/25spline or 4pin/28spline, whish is more relevent to EA-EB1s really.

if its not marked on the diff and you desperatly want to know the ratio, turn the tailshaft and count how many rotations of that it takes to get one rotation of a wheel.

I wrecked an ED futura 5 speed Sedan and it had 3.27's in it.
There was a small metal tag around one of the bolts that held the rear cover on
