I found a couple of photos that can help show i little more in depth.

This photo shows how smooth a carefully hammered inner skin can get. Notice how the inner skin is flat against the stretched outside skin.

This photo shows the rear guard after using a guard roller in the cntre part of the guard, and the use of hammer and dolly to finish the outsides off.

Note that both these techniques have not yet been repainted, and the existing paint is almost unharmed. It is quite easy to get this result with a little patience. Both these photos are not mine, or my work, however they are done by average guys that enjoy cars. Photos are courtesy of GOOGLE.
