I have to say everytime I get a wheel alignment the steering wheel is always off to one side a bit.
When I get new tyres or lower a car I've always got the steering wheel to one side when before it was perfect. The wheels of the car may be straight but the steering wheel isnt. Why the hell does it do that? Its fricken annoying. I'm going to get my steering wheel changed to a momo very shortly and I will try to get the guy to put it on as straight as possible but I know next time I get an alignment it will be off again. GRRRRRR. |

i think you might need to get your wheel alignment after you replace or get new tyres. i know some times when i swap wheels from back to front it does it might be to do with the profile of each tyre? if it comes out of a wheel alignment and the wheel is not sitting straight take it back and tell them to fix it properly.

GRRRRRR. Your steering wheel is crooked because the guy who did the alignment failed to ensure the steering wheel was straight before making his adjustments at the wheels. Take it back if your not happy.

I had a wheel alinement done at the tyre factory in dandnong on my old fairlane, they ended up getting my steering wheel off to one side by like 4-5cm, INSANE!
I take it back after i realise as i was backing out n hes like nah, like that when u brought it in n cant fix it, u got problem with ur rack... Refused to do it, so to say least left their workshop in a cloud of smoke and went to bob jane in narre warren where they fixed it all up n didnt charge me even, top guys i swear, think they felt bad as i was fuked over.. BTW: Steering wheels only go on in one spot, they cant be set off to one side; you will know what i mean when you see how they sit on.

as i said in another wheel align topic most places unless they r specialty jus set your car to factory settings and if u have differant size or profile than factory then all the settings will be out go to a specialist. i use wilkinsons suspension center in bayswater W.A.

I used to do wheel alignments and go somewhere else as this is hopeless.
Any good wheel alignment centre will be able to get correct toe in and the wheel centred. That was always the easy bit. its just pure lazy to adjust only one tie rod end till you get it right and then whoops the wheel isn't straight oh well i will take the wheel off and centre it OH DUH air bag and keyed spline whoops! f*** it a*** customer won't know ane we can always tke his money and BS him! The camber and castor are the harder things to get right as even when adjustable poor crash repairs and odd settling of suspension make it near impossible. |

in the ACT I go to Inline Steering and Suspension. $35 alignment, and they'll either take it to stock, or to your measurements. I got my suspension done there, so they know my somewhat agressive specs (which is good cause I don't, unless I look 'em up).
Chris there runs a great shop, and is always a good chat, and I've never had a problem with them.

That's a bit of a hike from here (Bentley) but I need the suspension looked at so I'll make my way out there when I can afford it.

you shouldnt move the steering wheel to get it centred, it should be done by adjusting the tie rod ends. a good aligning place should have the steering wheel centered before making adjustments. now on the other hand if your rack or any other front end component is worn it will sit to one side whilst driving, the camber of the road also changes the wheel position.
