The EA T5 does not have synchros on reverse.
Hence the crunch. If you put the car into 3rd then reverse it should resolve this. BenJ

Yeah thats exactly what i thought with no syncros, sick of people telling me i cant drive when it crunches in reverse, i go 5th then reverse, that seems to do it most times.
yeah 1st in the wet its fun, but when you actually wanna go somewhere you cant, 2nd the same, you have to really feather the throttle to get the grip on stockies, but with my 19's on it seems to grip up really well, even in the wet.

So the ED T5 is the exact same as the EF and EL's T5?

Yes, besides year. Same ratio's, same bearings, same box. Just check that it is an EB2+ T5 (obviously it could have been changed at some point) Either way if it is an EA-EB1, it'll work.

Do you (or anyone else) have model numbers and a run down of all the different T5s that were used throughout the Falcon range?

EF/EL Model Number: 94AD
Ratios: XF-EB 6 Cyl 3.5, 2.14, 1.39, 1, 0.73 ED-EL 6 Cyl 3.25, 1.99, 1.29, 1, 0.72 AU 6 Cyl not sure but I think the same as EL EB-AUIII V8 2.95, 1.95, 1.34, 1, 0.73 EB XR8 Sprint 3.25, 1.99, 1.29, 1, 0.72 (same as I6, rare - used a special input shaft, which I have one of lying around in a box in the shed - goes straight into a later EF/EL I6 box with the revised helix angle and taper bearing) Aside from the EB XR8 Sprint input shaft, nothing useful is interchangable between I6 and V8 'boxes My C/R 'box 2.185, 1.609, 1.238, 1, 0.878. Manufactured by John Needham. (Courtesy of scooter)

wow congrats to kstevo there is no sign of flamming of any sort..
It has all been said that basciall the T5 box from EA to EL are all interchangeable bar the gear ratios. EA to EBI the box had some sycro changes EBII to ED is the same box but is stronger and is less prone to reverse gear to s**t it self (popping out of gear) i was running a EA box in my EB when i had it and gears seemed no different to my mates ED.. AU box will fit but only if you are willing to cut some of ya tunnel to suit the length of the AU but iam also sure that the tailshaft may needed to be modifored

just putting it out there, i dont know of any gearboxes with syncros in reverse as they are straight cut gears as there is no need for them because you are generally standing stil when you select reverse. but i could be wrong
oh and btw i have a t5 im selling. if anyone is interested pm me |

Its not synchro for the gear engagement.
Its just a synchro thats attached to the reverse selector 'prior' to reverse gear. It causes friction on the countershaft. Its duty is to slow the countershaft (or even stop) when in neutral and cease gear crash when selecting reverse.
