well, Nulon Netlube recommends Full Synthetic 80w140......
1.6 Litres to be exact, but I swear i can remember seeing in the owners manual of my NC that the LSD takes LS90. EDIT: After checking Fuchs, Penrite, Castrol and Nulon, they all recommend 80w140. So I might have given you a bum steer when i said its good lol. (maybe 6 and 8 are different.)

That's the exact same stuff I used, it seemed to work a treat. Make sure you have a bit extra in case you spill some or whatever. Apart from that it should be a pretty straightforward job, hopefully it cures the diff noise.

If it makes the noise only when turning, it's the LSD clutches or cones. Often this noise can be fixed by a good diff fluid. Nulon is probably fine. I have always used Redline Synthetic, and it's magic. The local Ford dealership uses this for any noisy LSDs, and it fixes it 90% of the time without opening the case.
http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=37&pcid=4 http://www.redlineoil.com.au/reseller-locations.asp If the diff makes the noise in a straight line, it will be the ring and pinion gears not meshing properly - possibly due to a worn/loose pinion bearing. No fluid will fix this problem, though a good one may reduce the noise enough.

well i ended up getting some different fluid for the diff, can i do the diff with the rear end on ramps or does it need to be on stands?

Id do both, get the rear up on ramps then jack up the front and put it on stands, to try keep the car as level as possible.
