Hi. The T5 Gearbox in my EL XR8 Whines in 2nd and 3rd gear. It is a reco'd 6 cylinder box that I got only about 4 months ago. Is there an adative that I could use to stop / reduce this noise. I am using Valvoline Duragear oil, as it was recomended by the bloke I bought the box from.

T5s are supposed to use auto trans fluid.
I would replace the oil with Castrol Transmax Z. If you need an adative the recommended one is Penrite Lubrizol 7906. Comes in a 150ml bottle. You use the whole lot. |

Well I bought it from a manual trans place in Sydney paid $1200 outright for it and was assured it's a reco'd box. It is the 2nd box that I'd put in, as the first one whined and the prick I got it from finaly agreed to change it over. Now this one is even noisier than the first one. I don't realy want to deal with the arrogant f**k again unless i really have to. |

I was told that if I used any oil other than the Valvoline Duragear my waranty would be void. Supposedly the Auto trans fluid is too thin and can burn out the input shaft gear during high speed runs. |

It says in the T5 manual from the manufacturer to use ATF with an additive. But if they say it will void your warranty then use the stuff they said. Take it back to them and get them to sort the whine out.

you said it has warrenty, take it back get them to fix it.
