Hey lads and ladys

I have been considering fitting said ratio into my EF diff, i'm sick of our new BF Mont being way quicker than my car.

My questions regarding this is,

- is this ratio a pain in the a**?
- do you think your car revs too high at 100 kmh?
- is it a "worth my fkn time pulling the diff apart" mod to do?
- how will it compare then to the BF?

Thanks dudes.

Andrew.

yeah I don't like the higher rev's you'll be doing while cruise, the standard EF 3.23 is a pretty efficient diff ratio, who cares about getting off the line quicker... ?

Yeah i've done plenty of diff work myself, nothing too hard at all.

Happy - Yes this is the argument i'm having with myself about this, not sure whether to bother with it. I have plans to turbo the car, but this won't happen for atleast a year probably. However, the car is still heaps quicker than the old EB setup, but it just doesn't seem quick anymore.

I can see the revs being higher at cruise being a little annoying, but remember even cars of the mid 80's and early revved at 3000 or even higher at cruise without problems.

If you dont do much cruising at 100 and are start stopping more in surburbia, then your efficiency is better with a shorter ratio.

It doesn't do alot of highway now, but it will be doing more than start stop once it becomes a weekend car (soon).

Just not sure if i want it revving higher

go 3.9's like me, revs fuk all more at 100 but good for heavier traffic. My fuel economy is marginally better than it used to.

What kind of performance did you get out of 3.9's?

Also, what you rev at at 100?

Manual or auto?

Thanks mate

I have a 4speed auto with 4.11LSD
90km/hr in 4th = 1950RPM
100km/hr in 4th = 2100RPM
110km/hr in 4th = 2300RPM

Most favourite bit about the 4.11s, the way the lumpy cam sounds SOOOOO good off the line to 5,500RPM in 1st (WOT  )
Second, best bit is the torque of the gears.

Round-abouts: I leave them in 3rd, expecting a downshift, but I get "rapid" acceleration from an exit speed of about 20km/hr right up to 60-80 (speed limit dependant)

Overtaking: I was following a car doing 60 in an 80 zone. So I indicated, used WOT and overtook them at 110/hr and hit 3rd (Woops) (once over 50, my ECU locks out downshift to 1st because of corect speed/RPM signals).

P.S: Don't forget that I probaly feel the torque more because of the lumpy cam. Unmodified engines still might select 2nd more readliy than my car. But it did take a while to get used to the auto not downshifting any where near as much!

EDIT::: Had a bit of a "brain-f@rt" posted wrong RPM vs KM/HR above, see next page for correction

I guess even with a manual, i would have a similar rev/speed.

Is the higher revs at 100 annoying?

Its "louder" than the 3.45s, but not annoying or droney. Depends on your exhaust/cam/head thou (Airflow and Quanity of Air). Sounds like a V8 fast idling, but louder :D

4.11s for the win. you wont regret it, if you have a stockish motor u will flog most cars off the line (lots of torque in these 6s heheheh)

Yeah besides the exhaust system and intake setup i'm pretty much stock.

Just want more performance for a while, until i decide to turbo or head/cam mods.

:)

yeah dude 4.11s will give u so much more accelaration you wont be able to belive its the same car.

ive had them in 2 of my fairmonts, about to get them in no.3 lol

its probably the biggest mod for pickup you can do.. they dont rev enough on the highway for it to be annoying either and i gained fuel economy with them.
