Hi all has anyone had or got 3.7 ratio installed in their ford? What was the speed and revlimtier like...was it a problem?

Do you think it is a good mod?

Rev limiter won't change - that's done by the ECU. Speedo will be wrong, as there's no sender gear for a 3.73 diff. But the following will show you the revs/speed for each gear in the 4spd BTR.

So the theory is correct? Putting in a set of3.7 gears wont be hitting the rev limiter on hard acceleration without speedo correction?

yes the rev limiter is affected by the engine NOT the diff gears

As for a good mod, not in these days of high petrol prices.

Having said that, I'm most happy with my 3.08 to 3.45LSD upgrade.

yes sadly.

But I drive like a hoon everywhere.

Previously high 13's per 100. Now high 16's per 100.

But as I alluded to earlier, I wouldn't change back.

Would you recommend against 3.7?

For fun/track/drag = most definately.
For daily driver = probaly not with the way fuel is going.

Plus you're going to have problems with you're speedo/odometer as there's no sender gear for a 3.73. You'd have to do something to adjust the signal being received by the cluster. I think there's kits available to help. But I haven't investigated them so don't know much (anything) about them.

Data mine youve been helpful.BTW ebay usa has a white cog sometimes for sale which is for the 3.73 diff ratio and speedo correction.

Hmmm... that doesn't bode well for me then :P
It'll be worth it though.
It's really embaressing when you get jumped by a Pulsar and they get ahead of you before a dual lane road merges to single...
Not that that's happened to me of course...

I have ran 9" with 3.7's in a td cortina 351w(std with tri-y & 3" sys) c4 auto 2500 stall shift kitted.
Use to have bw 2.92 prior(it broke)

I had and found that around town fuel econ became better as less throttle required to propel car to speed limit.

With the 1 to 1 top gear ratio of the c4 it worked out to be by memory about 2600rpm with 225x60x15's

It would have been better with a od box on hwy but econ was as good as the 2.92's unless you continually drove at flat for long periods it would use more(couldn't hold flat in top as would reach valve bounce).
It was on straight lpg(impco)

1999/2000 qld fuel price would drive to coast and back to logan with the odd skid and cain would use approx $13.00(120klm's).

It still wasted on hwy a vr ss even when the guy tried to do fly by, I would wait till he got to my rear 1/4 and nail it, he would get just in front of my nose before i would start to accelerate and kick his a** big time.

It did suffer top end but who needs to do 200+ you have already won or loss before that.

Never ran at drags with 2.92's and only ran once with 3.7's.
The lpg convertor played up once selected top and recorded 1.98 60ft, 8.8 1/8 @125kph, 13.9 1/4 @155(died in a** when shifted to top gear about 1/8 track)

The 3.7's would be better in a heavy less power car that has od box.
Even more so town driving.

The only issue for me with the 3.7 is the rev limiter.I am going to do my once only 1/4 mile and dont want the car to be dying 1/2 way down the track from the rev limiter.
