Hi im just wondering why there a no really quick 13 or low 14sec i6 autos?
Dont get me wrong I know the btrs have the looong 1st gear but isnt the ratio 2.39:1 the same as 1st in a c4 auto? There seems to be plenty of 14 sec and a few 13 sec manuals but why not the autos. Surely with a decent stall and short diff gears the could achieve the same acceleration as the manuals? Every 2nd older x model falcon has a c4 and runs quick times. Id really like my ed to run mid 14s with the btr auto but its lookin like il need the t5 to make it happen.its disappointing because 9 times out of 10 im happy with the cruisy nature of the auto and every now and the id like the acceleration of the manual. Quite perplexing it is.

There aren't many, but it can be done. Here's one from the Quarter Mile Registry:
Flesh'n'Bones EL GLI 13.77 105.00 mph www.fordmods.com/400m.php Part of the reason we don't see more fast BTRs is that manual conversions are a very common mod and a cost-effective way to go quicker, so few E-series owners aiming for low ETs persevere with the automatic. Also, the older 3- and 4-speed automatics are less efficient than the 5-speed manuals of the era, so put less power to the road - often 5% less. So, a BTR would be unlikely to match the acceleration of a 5-speed manual, assuming the same power at the crankshaft. But you could get close with steep diff gears, a tight shift, and a high-stall to get to peak torque sooner - and no time wasted between gears like a manual.
