hi guys i just recently got a Ef fairmont 6
it seems really slow off the line but i get about 90km/h outa first gear, its slow to the point that i have 15inch retreads on it and it was pissn down with rain last night and it still would not even give a little slip of the line. do i have a truck diff in it or something. at 110km/h it sits around 800rpm so im thinking i got long ranged diff gears or somthing along that line. Thanks |

Thanks 110kmph @800rpm the ratio would have to be in the low 2:1 range, 3.08's sit around 1900-2000 @ 100kmph, 3.45's around 2000-2100 @ 100kmph, depending on the accuracy of the speedo IIRC. |

i think his exaggerating a little bit.
most likely you will have 3.08.. easy fix. go to a auto/tranny shop, if you want to stay auto tell them you want 4.11 diff gears, or if you want to go manual get a conversion, ask for a ea t5. that will solve your issues

3.23s in the EF mont, you'll be doing 1800ish at 100kms.
Theyre all slow off the line, because first cog does 90odd as you've found out. In the wet though you should be able to spin them. The mont I had you could wheel spin in the wet anywhere from 0 to about 50k's if you were in first n punched it.. So I'd be doing a full service to see if you cant find a few lost ponies before you spend big on diff gears. |

I have 3.23's in my Mont, does 1850rpm at 100kms, so I'm hoping you meant 1800rpm at 100kms and not 800rpm or else something is seriously wrong. Also as Krisisdog suggested, do a full service on the car before looking into other things. Seeing as you have just got the car I'd be replacing as many serviceable items as possible so you know where you stand, so oil and oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, plugs etc, might pay to renew the o2 sensor while your at it as it's most likely rooted if its the original item. I'd also recommend getting a service done on the trans, i.e. new filter and fluid flush, then see how it goes from there. |

haha i did not get beat by a dato 120y but i did get creamed by a gemini lol, until about 55k then i smashed him, falcon has no balls under 3k rpm then it seems to slam me in my seat and shoot off.
also when it in park when i rev the motor it takes ages for it to come back down to idle any clue's wat is causing that. all my mates ef's dont do it |

check the throttle body sensors, could be dirty or faulty

Taking ages to return to idle will be the ISC (idle speed controller) unit (sits on top of the throttle body). If its not working 100% it will act like yours is.
