happened today in Subi... going around a corner at 20kmh... felt a massive bang... and suddenly there was my front right wheel rolling away from the car...

the wheel nuts stripped themselves.... luckily the hub adaptor took the brunt of the impact (so my actual hub is ok :))
and the front 1/4 panel is rooted... also, my brake rotor has a slight flat spot
the rim is all good though :D

i ended up chucking the FTRs back on... and using 'race' tape to hold it back on...
ive been able to source a heritage green 1/4 panel so thats good.
and the 1/4 panel was the only damage

this is why hub adaptors are dangerous!

Ouch, we should make this thread a sticky for the frequent hub adapter debates.

i think you should contact the manufacturer of the hub adaptors and report what happend, maybe this item needs to be recalled. just lucky it happend at low speed. its i real safety hazard if it happens at high speed.

so by the looks of it you need a new guard.... repeater light and new rotor.... (i wouldn't be using that one looks like it is a bit grinded (might be the photos though))

you all right no whiplash or anything could of been worse 90km or some down a high way not good........

looking at studs, they where mild steel -ford use better grade steel and or heat treat -to harden the threads.

That's interesting. What brand/type of adaptors are those? What metal did they use? How much did you pay for them, where did you get them?

The metal would have to be really weak for the strippage to occur just like that. Are you sure someone didn't try to steal your wheels but only managed to loosen the nuts.

im not sure what brand... but it seems the body is aluminium... i got them for $75 each... im not gonna say where i got them due to defamation laws.

nah cos the other side (left front) had loose nuts too (including locknut)... dodgy!!!!

damn man...good to hear all is good. Dodgy hub adapters. I agree with hans hartman...looks like mild steel considering the bend...if it was quenched and the studs gave way...the thing could have snapped off.

phong =P~

For 5 1/2 x 20tpi studs to strip, a fairy must have kissed you on the d**k.
I dont mean to speak wrong or anything, but engineering wise, its an impossibility, as the thread is stronger over its surface area than the alloy holding the studs in.
I would say, purely from an engineering point, that seeing your other front was not tight, that you may have had some clearance issues with the wheel and it (or both) were not put on correctly, or not tightened.
Hub adaptors are a factory fitment on Porches, F350 front wheels etc.
For 5 studs to all strip simultaneously, its a mechanical impossibility.

Actually, looking at the pics closer, I would bet by left gonad that the wheel nuts were left loose. The stud shows no sign of yeilding, and thread looks fairly intact.
Did you check for correct wheel nuts, and that they were seating correctly, and not bottoming out?
