I'm in need of some serious rubber now due to a lack of grip at the back, just wondering what is the widest possible tire that will fit under the back without looking like an idiot.
I see some rims in 18x9.5 to suit the ED but Im thinking they would be too wide? Any sugestions? |

Ive heard 10in will fit, but mods to the watts link to prevent lateral movement is needed apparently.

what size are the GT rims? 8in? Is it law that rim width mush be only 1in wider than the widest avail on the car?

Your also probably better off on a smaller rim. Think about it: Larger profile tyre can be let down more = more contact patch.
Oh and wider tyres don't necessarily give more grip, I would be looking at quality not quantity in this case. |

They are 17" x 8.5". they are meant to be fitted with 245 series but they are WAY too expensive. I went for 255 in the end and they fit the GT rims perfectly. Mind you I do have the EB GT kit, Flares on the wheel arch's make for a bit more room.

Its got almost new Yokahamas 215.60.15 which I was told were one of the most sticky available in that size, but it shreds them like... so wider is the only option

You'll want a street legal drag radial, something like Nitto 555Rs.

I've seen an AU with 265s on the rears. It had superlows and wasn't modded to take them.
then you can go with 235s up front (much cheaper) without rubbing on the guards (unless its really low like ugly bob's then you'll need to roll your guards.

I had 265's on the back of the EB on old school jelly bean rims.. They rubbed all the way to the track on every bump..The rims were 7" wide i think....so im guessing 255's would be ok..

235 on the front of an EA-ED will rub during cornering on king super lows.

Have you thought about getting something like R Compound semi-slicks CHEF?
Not sure how'd they go on the strip, but once warmed up on the road there about as grippy as you'll get legally. Expensive but...

The other problem to take into consideration is that 18inch rims are illegal on an E series falcoon.
Just thought I'd warn you. I'd be going for some 255s on the rears and some 235s up front.

I'm pretty sure 18's aren't illegal, due to the existence of the EB and EL GT's, both with 17" rims.
You are allowed an increase/decrease of (here in vic anyway) I think 25mm in rolling diameter. I can't remember what width is. Think it might be a percentage of the original widest rim available in the vehicles "series" .

Just thought I'd warn you. I'd be going for some 255s on the rears and some 235s up front. afaik most registration authorities in australia allow for a 2" increase in wheel diameter, which makes 18"s legal for just about every E-series......
