Okay i have the same question but for the V8...

Will an AU V8 T5 box fit into an EL V8...

Or will it be the same issue of of mismatch lengths? I have a box lined up, I just need to know if shell fit.

Mismatching length. AU is longer.

Will a AU V8 T5 gearbox fit in an EL XR8 if I swap the extension housing?

and..

Could I make a 6 CYL T5 box fit if I somehow manage to swap the input shaft from the V8 box? Its easier to get my hands on a 6 box, can the longer input shaft be bought seperatly?

Obviously Im having problems getting a gearbox for my XR8.

change input shaft and change extension housing would be the first 2 obvious steps.

I have an AU xr8 manual and I'm trying to put it in my DF LTD, will I have the input shaft issue aswell or just the extension housing length issue?

Beginning to think I've bitten off more than I can chew...

Extention housing and output shaft are different. V8 input shafts are the same E Series to AU.

There is no tailshaft that will fit. You also face the problem of shifter location. The AU shifter will sit where the power window switches are located.

just thought I would ask this here to clarify I have a 2001 s3 au sedan auto that needs a new trans and was thinking of putting an e-series 4 speed in.

so questions

1)will they be a direct unbolt this re bolt that replacement?
2)will the e-series preform at the standard au performance?
3) can I keep the dipstic for the e-series in the trans? removing the dipstick was one of the worst decisions ford made
4)Will I need to change torque converters or flex-plates?

I am not all that cluey about au's but am learning thanks

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Maybe - The dipstick disappeared with the EF11 so it will depend what box you get. The dipstick may not clear the firewall etc due to the different shape
4. No

Cheers

auto box.
1)yes, just use the au belhousing.
2)yes, pretty much the same box
3) yes, the dip stick can be used in au.(firewall layout is the same)
4) depending on what e series the box is from, eb/ed (91le) run a different oil pump and run a slightly shorter input on the torque converter..
so best to run the e series converter with the e series box..
and flex plates are the same...
