I went for a crawl under the 97 EL Fairmont Ghia V8 today and saw a sticker on the right axle and it had 3.45 LSD on it. I thought Fairmonts had a 3.23 diff but mine is 3.45.
I reckon thats awesome.
Anyone else got a 3.45 on their Fairmont?

xr6 / xr8 / EL Fairmont Ghia / FBT / GT / LTD / Longreach Utes - All had the 3.45:1 LSD standard; the GT and Longreach ute had a hydratrack version of the diff however.
All Long Wheel Base cars not fitted with the 3.45:1 LSD recieved a 3.23:1 Single Spinner unless it was LSD optioned otherwise.
Each V8 that isnt an XR8 or GT or FBT or LTD, so ie futura, will have a 3.23:1 Single spinner unless optioned up to the LSD again.
Everything else should be a 3.08:1 Single Spinner unless the option box was ticked also.

Simple, ye?

nup! :o

I thought I'd have a look at the ID tag because the revs were slightly higher than I expected at 100kph. I dont care though because its 3.45.

Definately happy that I bought it.

your right Daniel ALL EF and EL XR,s had 3.45:1 LSD
EF & EL fairmont had 3.23:1 single spinner
longreach ute had 3.23 or 3.45 (auto or manual) but lsd was still an option on them even if it had a 3.45:1

hope this helps

According to the Ford service manual the following cars have the following ratios.

6cyl sedan, except LSD Auto 3.08
8cyl, 6cyl sedan, Wagon & LSD Auto and Manual 3.23
XR6 Auto and Manual 3.45
XR8 Manual 3.23
XR8 Auto 3.45

My EF Fairmont has a 3.23 LSD.

I believe all XRs had LSD standard, my Fairmont got it as an option.

Quote:
This later EL XR8's rear axle ratio was lowered to 3.45:1 from 3.23:1 which made it the same as the XR6 for a significant improvement in performance off the mark. Only 784 of these final EL XR8 185 kW versions were made which makes them sought-after on the used market.

That is direct from http://www.fpv.com.au/index.asp?link_id=4.127
