i have supers in the front of my ef and the crossmember sits at 88mm, but ive been through a few roadworthies and have come out fine. i find these defect stations REALLY depend on ur attitude and the overall cond of ur car.
All dips and bumps, and road cracks will cause you to come almost to a stop. trick here is to just be carefull. p.s. definantly save the extra for matched shocks, then after that save more for sway bars. Rushed. |

These are the specs from King Springs, The HTG means "height to guard". They reccomend that any spring shorter than super lows use shortend shocks/struts for more suspension travel so as the bump stops arent bottoming out all the time giving a hard ride. Basically measure say with super lows (350mm rear) measure the difference to the guard and add that to the lowest point on the car, if its going to be under 110mm its illegal in Victoria. With ultra lows you will definately be pushin it and the cops will get you eventually.
HTG front lowered - 365mm rear lowered - 370mm HTG front S/low - 345mm rear S/low - 350mm Shorter shocks are not required, but would be recommended to change, if using superlows, to achieve more suspension travel for better ride quality. |

Lowered springs and shock - cheap. (not my auction, or anything to do with me, just helpful advice)

Not sure about VIC, but in SA superlows = illegal (by about 5mm). Ive had them on for 2 years and have had no problems though. wrong! superlows are o.k. minimum legal height for eb (which a reckon would be same for all e series) is 335mm centre of hub to guard. superlows are 345mm. superlow rears are 350. i have 345mm's all round. all legal as i had to go through regency which is how i know about minimum legal height as car didn't pass first time. when looking for new springs i also learned that kings offer a range of heights starting at about 330mm and going up in 5 or 10mm increments so instead of just asking for low, superlow or ultra low, measure your car and how you'd like it to sit and then speak to a dealer. as far as shocks go i'm running stock all round and although it doesn't handle like a race car it is o.k. i mainly do it for looks. my car will never see the track and due to the lower centre of gravity it is still better than stock. in a perfect world, run shorter shocks but otherwise just leave them be. if you are planning on getting new ones anyway i'm not sure on price diff. if it isn't much then get the right ones.

EF weighs more then an EB. Also, you guys buying springs that give a '50mm' drop, is King taking into account the weight of YOUR car? Every car is different, a difference of over 10mm is not unheard off. Theres manufacturing tolerance in springs as well...

weight has nothing to do with minimum height as obviously on a heavier car you would have a different spring rate to achieve the same ride height. the salesman did say they would settle down a bit. front is sitting around 340mm on mine and rear has gone to about 330 - 335mm. both front and rear were 345mm centre of hub to guard springs. cops don't look twice unless you draw attention to yourself.

doing any kind of lowering without changing the shocks in my opinion is just silly.
the point of lowering is to increase the handling ability, this won't be achieved to its full potential unless the shocks are changed aswell to lowered shocks. the rebound rate at a lower level is different for standrd shocks to lowered ones.

Well if I am wrong then the police have it wrong as well - posted by the recent recipient of a defect in SA. Quote: EF Falcon not legal on superlows (SA)
Yes, i have had it confirmed by way of a Vehicle Defect Notice made under the Road Traffic Act of 1961. Here's the appropriate dimensions if you want to check yours for legality: Front - minimum measurement from centre of wheel to bottom of guard required to be 350mm. Rear - minimum measurement from centre of wheel to bottom of guard required to be 340mm. Overall, lowest part of the car not be lower than 100mm. This makes the front of my car illegal by 5mm

Errr, exactly... King have one set of 'superlow' springs for EA-EL 6 cylinders.

With Superlows then, you will be line and ball on the legal 100mm ride height, also depends on the wheels you have on your car, etc.
I would get them, not Lows, but you will have to adjust your driving style, etc because it will scrape on a lot of things. It will most likely sit between the 90-110mm ground clearance i would think. There are too many variables to give an exact 'It will sit at this height'. |
