Hi guys,
I have a reconditioned T5 out of an XF and I currently have an EF XR6 T5 in my EB XR6. the current EF XR6 box i have is fine with no issues, it has done about 200,000kms. I want to sell one of these boxes as part of a conversion kit I have for a clevo or windsor. My question is should I swap out my EFXR6 box for the XF one (if this is possible to do) as the XF one is reconditioned or should I keep the EF XR6 one. What are the differences between the T5 out of the XF and the one out of the EF XR6? Are they exactly the same apart from different ratios? My EB is currently stock but i will be turbo charging it later this year and want to keep it manual. thanks.

Keep the EF one.
XF T5, is a Non WC box. 1st gear ratio will be 3.5:1 Will have standard needle bearings in between the the input shaft and main shaft. Will not have a reverse gear syncro cone. (crunches in reverse if changing to quickly.) EF T5 is a World class box. 1st gear ratio is 3.25:1 Will have tapered Rollers between the input shaft and main shaft. Countershaft Has Timken bearings roller bearings (noticeable without pulling the gearbox apart) Has a reverse syncro cone to help slow now the lay-shaft to engage reverse 'better' Has an external pin that looks like a large 'roofing nail' on the outside, so you can tell even when its in the car what type it is. see: post1081452.html some info there. I'd keep the EF type. Also the XF doesn't have a 'neutral switch' on the top cover. it only has a reverse switch. And You'll need a Dellow or CRS bell housing to suit a 6cyl T5, as the factory V8's had longer input shafts.

What are you after for the rest of the conversion kit $$?
PM me if you want.

After all, there's less XF T5's out there to compare!

That's what I was thinking too Andrew. I'd think all the EFI XF's had no transmission control in the ECU. So no need for a neutral switch.

No big deal, you can still inspect the rollers and shells, if there's no obvious brinelling, case hardening damage, etc, keep using them. Replace the front and rear seals though.
