Hello, I am having troubles with my auto. I have been trying to wrap my head around this for some time now. I bought the car with a busted engine (Dizzy gear stripped). I put a reco motor in. The guy I got it off said he never had any trouble with the Auto.

So here's what's happening.

- Start the car, engine idles, after about 2 seconds the revs drop.
- Clunks hard when selecting Reverse, Drive, Park....
- Gear changes between 1st, 2nd and 3rd are all rough.
- Car will not go into 4th gear.

BUT... Very rarely I'll start the car, the engine will hold it's idle from start and everything runs perfect... Like there was never any problem. If I turn the car off and start it back up and has gone to s**t again...

I have asked many local mechanics but they aren't willing to deal with Auto repairs like this and we don't have a local Auto specialist that I'm aware of.

If you have any idea what it could be please let me know. I don't want to spend a couple grand on a reco Auto if it's not the auto that's causing the issue.

Clutch packs &/or torque converter are stuffed.
Not selecting 4'th gear is a giveaway that the trans is tired & on it's way out.
