2001 AU series XR6, recenty had to have the clutch almost entirely replaced, all except for the synchro mesh which i know is screwed, I think its wearing rediculously quick already. Having suspisions that what ever the mechanic put in was no where near heavy duty enough for the 4L tickford engine.
any have any suggestions on whether I should replace it with specific parts? or would replacing the synchro solve everything |

Synchro mesh is inside the gearbox so no it wouldnt have been changed. What are you talking about when you say synchro?
If its slipping the pressure plate isnt heavy enough, or the clutch isnt adjusted properly and is staying partially depressed. |

I know it's inside the gear box, I mean i know it's damaged and it was replaced. the clutch is not slipping, it's hard to neutral and slip into other gears when accelerating and it grinds when I put it into reverse. the problem was slowly getting worse before I had everything replaced and its beginning to get worse again, I thought maybe the synchro mesh may have had something to do with it.

The clutch may not be disengaging correctly there as well, which will cause grinding and hard gear changes.
Wind the nuts on the clutch cable in towards the firewall ( I think) and see if that makes a difference, then do the opposite to see what happens. |

Let us know how it goes.
Its rare for all the synchros to die, reverse and 2nd normally play up before anything. If the clutch cable is stretching (cheap-o) it will be good for a while then slowly turn to s**t again. |

I have the same problem with my el xr6. i tried adjusting the cable which didnt help at all so i replaced the cable which also didnt help. at times i have to force it extremely hard to get it into any gear as if i havent got my clutch pedal fully pushed in... the guy i bought the car off said it has a cushioned button clutch in it but who knows. it is extremely hard to push the pedal in though... if anyone figures out what the problem is i would love to know coz my clutch doesnt slip at all even under hard driving and it cant be good having to force it into gear all the time.
