A search will reveal the following important factor.
The ECU uses speedo signal not rpm to determine shift points. You are now turning more rpm for a given speed & the speed signal is correct to the road, but the ECU is not aware of the extra rpm.

Or as others have done, put the original sender gear back in the tranny & use a Jaycar speedo corrector for the dashboard signal only. The shift points will return to normal rpm & you will still know how fast you are going.

can the original sender gear from the car that had the 3.45 diff be put into the car that the diff has been fitted to to correct the problem? Or does the ECU still need to be changed too?

As far as I can tell, that is what was done & that is what mucked up the shift points. I think I've already explained why

Ahh I understand now. I am going to do the same diff conversion but being an ex-chaser I can calibrate the speedo to suit!

BTW, where is the speedo gear on the gearbox, is it the round 2 pin plug on the passenger side? Any trick to taking them out/changing them?
