Hi, i have just fitted an xr6 diff to my el falcon it has 3.45 ratio i think. i was told this was going to put my speedo out, The car seems a hell of a lot quicker and goes sideways nicely, but how far out will the speedo be and what speedo drive do i need, i got told that the colour of the cog on the speedo drive determines this.

if you change the speedo gear on the transmission, the shift points will also be affected, and it will hold gears longer / too long.
Your better off leaving the existing speedo gear on there and installing a speedo corrector inline with the cluster. I have correctors available if your interested. |

Get a black speedo drive cog if you have 16" rims. Or a grey speedo drive if you have 15" or 17" rims.
This will make your speedo 100% correct. |

i went from brown to grey and my speedo is off by only 2 km/h 58km/h at 60 with 17s

This will make your speedo 100% correct. Yes but it will alter the shift points and there is a possibility that the engine will reach the rev limiter before changing into the next gear. Thats why it is better to leave the existing speedo drive gear (cog) and digitally adjust the instrument cluster, so the shift points remain the same although the vehicle is physically going some 15% slower. |

This will make your speedo 100% correct. what difference does rim size make?? if correct ratio tyre is fitted the overall diameter should remain close enough to the same. its only when you start going beyond 18" that you start to get larger diameter. black cog is 23 tooth and will be the one an xr6 would use in conjunction with the 3.45 diff however 66 coupe is right. you may find you will hit the limiter before it changes gears. not sure if 1 corrector will fix it either. may need to run 2. was a thread on this a while back. i am running a corrector in mine as i have 3.9 diff but due to the fact that it is an early eb, gearbox is not affected.

One corrector will be fine as long as its intercepting the cluster signal only and not the ecu signal.
A speed limiter removal module can also be installed to the ecu remove the speed limiter, which would usually come in at 180km/h but will now activate at just over 150km/h with the new diff ratio. |

Go measure/calculate the rolling diametre of a factory 15", 16" and 17" rim e-series and come back to me. You will see why there are different cogs. |

Thanks for all your help guys, its given me a lot of options, currently i only have 15's on the car but i have a set of 17's waiting so i will put them on and then play with the speedo drive, if not i will try the corrector.
