being the capable aircraft technician / diesel fitter that I am, last time I changed the shocks on the EF myself, prick of a job needing spring compressors etc, but not that hard, this time I thought I might be lazy and get it done for me, having moved up the ladder and not being used to getting my hands dirty to much anymore, don't bloody think so, JAX tires quoted approx 1day  and $800 (parts & labour) to do the job, might have to give the local mechanic a go.

Thats a bucket load.

Whats the go with these spring compressors, i bought a pair to lower my ed over xmas, and i didnt need em at all...

Id say do em yourself, fronts can be changes over at about .5 to 1 hour and rears prolly an hour total.

All you need is 2-3 jacks and your set, its all so much easier if you jack both sides up at once, both front wheels then both rear, cause swaybars make it difficult.

How'd you squish the springs down then so that you could tighten the tops?

springs were probably flogged already and possibly more in need of being reset than compressed, I have done rears before without compressors.. little interesting but can be done.. spring compressors make it alot easier and safer.. spend the $$$ is you want someone else to do it.. BTW what shocks were they gonna use? and bare in mind you will be paying hoist time and labour.. still sounds on the high side but depending on parts used it could still be ok..

You dont need compressors for the rear.
I don't know how you would need to :?
Even if you have some monster giant raised springs, just drop the watts link and let the diff down further.
Only need compressors in the front to put springs back in, depending on if you've got shortened struts and what springs.
Depending on shocks, $800 could be good or bad!
Local guy might be better, but I'd just man up and do it myself ;)

I've got to pull rear springs out of a car I'm wrecking and had just assumed I'd need compressors!

Given that it's got ultra lows fitted, perhaps they're already fairly short and will come out pretty easily!

ultra's should fall out as soon as you jack up the rear.
