Boards 0001 and 0002 have been built and tested.
I've got to make a loom up for 0002 before it goes out the the lucky first customer. I'll let him and myself continue testing for a while (that and I'm moving house next week), then I'll start taking orders.

If only we all spent as time on our projects as we did sitting on the MOTIVATIONAL / DEMOTIVATIONAL thread............................................. (!)
I've still been telling people over here about them man. I think that with some decent photos from your photography division and a decent write up from your Jeremy Clarksonesqe journalistic division, that there could be a select few owners of the GT varieties that would be mighty enthusiastic. If I had an example in my hand and went to the FPV owners clubs, there would be buyers.... |

Thanks my eastern island stalker.
At the moment, I'm considering the need for a complete redesign. For some unknown reason the prototype keeps on working, while the new PCBs using matching parts die. Some of the parts on the prototype I acquired when I did my electronics TAFE course more than 10 years ago, maybe they made things better back then, as I can't find replacements that work.

Sadly not much has happened in a while. I've had a change in role at work, that's kept me busy and traveling.

Hi again Data - Was about to to PM you and then thought it would be possible to bump this fantastic thread of yours by leaving an almost relevant question on it.
I have recently sold a set of EL cruise control switches on TradeMe to a guy up North someplace. Just last night he also bought my EF XR8 steering wheel and black air bag ($46.66 by the way...) Anyhow - By looking through the list of his feedback I have discovered he actually has an AU. Question is --- Will the EL cruise control switches hook up to his AU mechanism --- And if they do, I figure he will start changing his radio tuning or what have you by pushing the "cruise" buttons as they may be supplying the wrong resistance through the clock spring...? If anyone has the relevant info regarding this, I figured it'd be you. |

If anyone has the relevant info regarding this, I figured it'd be you. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the AU and EL electrics - in regard to the cruise control are identical. Also I don't think the AU had stereo controls on the wheel, so no chance of confused signalling. The AU's used the same steering wheels as the EF/EL. I used to run an AU XR leather wheel in my EL, and the cruise control buttons worked fine (I used the AU ones as they were black, and matched the black wheel/airbag, instead of the EL grey ones). But certainly sending wrong signals through the clock spring can cause funny things to happen. I found that if you hold both the up and down shift buttons (using the resistances I previously chose), the speed alarm setting changes.

Yeahp - As you know I have a duplicating button for "DECEL" or "SET-" on my clutch pedal and by pushing the clutch in and pushing buttons I usually just get the horn. If you try CRUISE ON and SET+ with clutch you get horn, but from that point on, CRUISE ON will only produce the horn and not work for turning cruise on until you turn car off. Obviously with a more complicated system such as with stereo controls I was getting a little concerned as to the effects of him putting the steering wheel and associated controls into his AU. Would be a pity to see AIR BAG deploy when he tried to accelerate with cruise on..... PS - I was going to nominate you for the moderator positions going. Figured you'd be a great man for the job, but then the job might not be great for you. I reckon you'd be pretty useful but.... |

The airbag wiring/circuit is completely separate in EF-EL/AU/BA-BF/FG series. No need to worry about that. Just leave it alone. I considered self nominating, but wondered who else would second it.
