Hi All,
Need to do a fuel pump tonight, and I was after any tips on how to get that awful plastic ring off without butchering it. Everytime I do a fuel pump, I end up butchering the plastic ring by using a blunt chisel and a mallet! Apparently there is a tool available to remove it, but none of my local places have one in stock. So, if you have any tips, I'd really appreciate your advice! Thanks, Justin. |

I made a tool to undo the plastic nut. I used s/s flat bar, 25 X 3mm and a 1/2" drive socket welded onto it and cut out the slots with a hacksaw.

A long peice of wood with 2 screws or bolts opposite each other. or measure the ring, get a peice of flat bar, add 1 on either side of ya first measurement bend the inch long bits 90degree and cut slits into the flat bar ends and then weld a nut or something that a spanner or shifter can grab to turn it. With the large hose clamp that sits around the ring just get a screw driver and pri it up and get some side cutters and cut it. Hope this info helps

Thanks for the advice all, very much appreciated!
Unfortunately both of my other cars managed to die today, leaving me with 3 undriveable cars, and with 1 hour of sunlight to spare, I had little choice but to go the tried and true method of butchering the damn thing off! I'm going to make up a tool like cjh posted above at work though this week, as that would be a very handy thing to have for next time. |

Sometimes that gets you outta trouble.
