Hi all,

I have a fairlane facia in my EL and I'm about to take this thing over the pits so I am fixing all the little stuff.

2 things I've not yet fixed are the door ajars flashing away and the bulb out warning..... I'd imagine I can fool all these sensors (the door ones at least) by putting resistors on the block plugs to trick it into thinking the doors are all shut. Do I need resistors or is it just shorted is closed, open is open?

Any ideas? I've read though Vics tech doc but he didn't deal with the bulb out thing and his method of dealing with the door open thing was to put the switches in.. I'll do that probably at some stage in the future, but right now I have not got the time so I need to just get them showing as closed on the cluster.

Re the bulb out feature, I don't have the plug, plugged in, and the globe doesn't light up at all for me. You could always, just remove the bulb out globe too.

I believe if you hook up a 180 OHM resistor it will stop the flapping and show it as closed.

so 180 ohm resistors on each door shut circuit and unplug the globe out ?

isn't that globe the same one that backlights the rest of the LCD??? ie odometer etc.

frankieh i had the guys down @ southside auto electrics look t my Fairy cluster into my EA as it showing the doors trying to take off (flapping shut) i think they put a resistor in but im not sure might pay to talk to them might only be a 5min job for them also.

yeah,,, I was thinking of measuring the impedance of the door switch when it's closed and putting resisters there with the same impedance. If it doesn't work, I'll give them a call..


what did they charge you out of curiosity? and did they do anything about the bulb out warning?


LOL, just noticed the post from Benj again.. he has already answered the impedance question..

Car is registered legally now.. and by Tuesday the gas will be legal as well..... and I'll get the grant which will have totally paid for the car with some change...

nah didnt charge me for that as i was having other work done by them anyways on another matter sorry
