I split the head on my xg, so thought it a good time to start tinkering, can i bolt the cylinder head from an au straight onto my block or should i get mine fixed and work it.

AFAIK the AU head will drop straight onto the XG block, you won't see any preformace gains just a newish head. Also I woulnd't bother getting the cracked head fixed if you are keen on getting it worked get another decent head and get that worked.

As long as you use the cam & rocker gear that go with that head.

Furthermore;

If I can I fit any E series head to my EA II 3.9L, for eg: ED XR6? will the EA Log manifold fit on the EF / EL heads?
