Run two ECU's. pretty easy, done it before, because the EL ecu has smartlock, all you need to do is plug your EL ECU into your EB and run the power, and I think its Pin 4 to to start the smartlock system. ones the EL ECU has power, it will automatically startup pin4 that's the smartlock.

let me know if you need more info.

Laticia.

Im also looking for some info on this. Ive got a chiptorque J3 chip in my EB ECU and have bought a EL ECU so I can get a custom tuned TIP J3 chip.
Ive read you can keep the TCM to control the trans, and then use the EL ECU in place of the EB, but is it all 'plug and play' or are there wires for extra pinouts to be added/changed?

I have a NC Fairlane which has a tcm . What i did to get the EL ecu to work was strip down a EB2 falcon engine loom and pick out all the pins going to the transmission. Put them in to my wiring loom and so far everything is running fine. It is a real prick of a job to do but it's worth it. Or your other option is to find a EB2 engine loom and use that. You will have to move some pins around like the power steering switch and i think something else. Hope this helps ya out

Hmmm sounds like a pretty hard way to go about it. I cant imagine the EB1 and EB2 looms being very different.
Is it possible to fit the original connectors for the ECU and TCM, to the new EL ECU add a few wires, change a few pinout locations and thats it? I get the impression thats what most people do but Im still yet to find which wires need to be changed.

I assume you are running the EB engine.
you need to change one wire on the trip computer which is covered on another thread

post965326.html?hilit=el trip computer#p965326

if you only have clock no problem. buy a smart lock bypass from one of the other members and connect to pins 4, 57 and earth. The TCM all remains in place and no wires need to be touched.

if you are useing an EL engine there are a couple more things.

Well its actually an EA engine, but yeah currently all EB wiring and ECU.
I do have a trip computer but the instructions in that thread seem easy enough.

I plan on having TIP do a smartlock bypass on the J3 chip so that solves that problem.
So your saying that other than above points, the EL ECU can simply be connected in place of the original ECU without any other changes? (Do the TCM and ECU connectors fit the EL ECU properly?).

The ecu is a straight plug in and the tcm does not need to be touched at all. You can get away with leaving the trip computer but a couple of the functions will not work, then my fuel alarm started beeping with half a tank left. After driving mine around for a few months I would look at running the tranny off the ecu, heres the thread

Yup thats exactly what I used! Worked awesomely, and now I have thermo fans and a BBM running off it too! EL ecu is sooooo much better at changing gears.
