If it only just happened then it should be right, but if he waited for the economy light on the dash too start flashing(gearbox overheating warning) or thumps into gears might have done some damage???

lol i drove my car with a totally empty BTR for 30km's..... all sorts of noises including grinding & whining, top speed of 50kph.
had it towed from the servo, took it home, filled it up with oil and its still going "alright" to this day. I mean, the c2 & c4 clutches are fooked along with god knows what else, and it slips when taking off from the lights sometimes, but its still shifting nice & firm and is going good enough whilst im looking for a replacement box these BTR's are a fairly tough piece of gear |

For me i would say the gearbox is stuffed, at least i personally would replace it altogether. Although it may able to be fixed, you may be better off replacing it altogether to avoid possible problems that may arise from any damage the water may have done. Water and oil do not mix, no matter how short a period water was in the box, it would have increaced wear probably 10 fold depending on the water to oil ratio. That said i am fairly fastidious and somewhat paranoid when it comes to cars, i prefer to replace rather than fix especially when it comes to an auto trans. Hope this helps, prob didnt. |

there was no point in using the old auto so we got rid of it and he got another one put in through my mate, and f**k it drove beautifully, the orig rad he had in was chinese crap as he had a ding at the front few years ago, and that blew inside,
engine was coffing up coffe like oil for ages but she is all good now and with a orignal ford rad in, but as soon as it blew it was dropping gears and coffin up coffe like oil
