G'day, I know there's some info around somewhere but I was just wanting to ask a couple of questions.

1. Does the ECU control the valve in the manifold?
2. Is the valve actuated by vacuum or an electric solenoid?
3. If it's electrically actuated can I install a button to switch intake runners?
4. Again if it's electric is a momentary or toggle button needed?
5. There's a support bar on the manifold, will I need this or will it jut bolt straight on?


I think that's it.. Sorry to ask about this, I know it's probably been covered before.

Because I assume you'd need an EF/EL ECU for it to use the BBM, I don't have one and thought it would save a bit of cash to just use a button



As in yes I would need the support bar or I wouldn't?

I don't see how using a button will work in practice.

The BBM switches from long to short runners at 3800 rpm as it goes up the rev range. I really can't see how you can time this accurately at full throttle while doing everything else.

If you can't get an EL ECU, of which any will do from GLi to Fairmont for the std maps, or an XR or Fairmont Ghia for the Tickford maps, you can use a RPM switch kit from Jaycar to activate the BBM solenoid.

Oh, and you don't need the brackets from the BBM to the block. I left off the back one, but did install the front one as it is easy. Back one is a PITA.

Don't for get you will need BBM the two specific metal heater hoses, one goes around the block from the back of the water pump, the other from the lower thermostat housing, and the related rubber hoses are also different.

You will need to mod your EB/NA log manifold loom as well.

Yeah hoses are good if you can get them, I just used rubber 3/8 hose to jump between pipes
