Hi mate the recommend oil for your car is 15w-40 or 15w-50 but since you think the engine is a bit worn I would go the 15w-50.

The brand of oil you use depends on what you like really. Penrite hpr is a great oil I used to use that all the time but I have since switched to Valvoline. I used to use Duratech or Duraguard cant remember what it was called but they have since changed all there line up so now I use engine armor.

The only reason I switch to Valvoline was because of a magazine article I read awhile back that tested how well the oils protected you engine and for price per/L Valvoline killed it.

Its not a Jap engine, its an aussie slap together.

No need to use unrealistic light weight oils.

try semi Shell Helix Plus 15-50

For me i changed to penrite hpr 15 15w-60 semi synthetic and wouldnt go back. Its stoped lifter noise i used to have nice and quiet on start up and gives me good oil pressure all year round and you dont have your pants pulled down over the price ether. :)

nulon 15w50 fully synthetic. Im using that along with a friction additive(safe to use with full synthetic). i noticed smoother reving, and a quieter engine slightly better economy.

my motor seems to be burning a little bit of oil with it though ( 1 l every 7500 or every service) which i would expect from a 210000km original motor.

im not turning back from nulon on this motor, and when the new rebuilt donk goes in, it'll be mobile 1 until it hits 120k then the nulon 15w50.

p.s my motor is not nursed around

I use GTX2 Castrol as thats what the ford dealer uses here... Found it to be great stuff... Reliable and does the job well... I think its a 20W50 from memory...

I too have a slight oil burning problem... It was owned by elderly people before me and they would've nursed it... They put an original 300k on it... I haven't given it the same treatment and as such it uses a little...

Dont want to open another topic, but do you guys reckon I should be using synthetic oil in my EB XR6, has 178 on the clock now. I've been putting Castrol GTX2 20w-50 in it.

Which alternatives would you all recommend?

Cheers guys

I would say Hpr 15w50 since you only have 178000ks on your car

The last 2 oil changes I've done in my ED, I've used Pennzoil 15w/40.....Works really well and would recommend it for sure. They use to make it in 6 litre containers but now it's only available in 5 litres (Shame really because the 4.0 requires 5.5 litres).
