How do you service your car to avoid a blown head gasket?
Apparently the head gasket condition can be investigated by checking the compression pressure with a pressure gauge. Is this the best method? If so, how do you do it

theres basically no way to avoid a head gasket blowing on a falcon 6. ive seen some blow at 70,000km, my EL has done 271,000km on its original head gasket, and some taxis do double that.

No avoidance mechanism? bugger. I thought I could check the compression using the gauge and possibly avoid it. My AU is chugging away recently, so been concerned. Waiting for it to blow............

few differnt ways.
one. the sump oil will become milky grey in colour, due to it mixing with the coolant if its blown between the gallerys. two. it will run like a dog if its blown between cylinders, will lose compression in 2 cylinders. three. blows between the coolant gallery and the combustion chamber, creating a s**t of steam, and more running like a dog. four. external leak, ie. it uses coolant lots, and you can see it leak on the outside of the engine under the exhaust manifold. theres probably other ways, but im too tired to think of any at the moment lol

I guess i'm one of the lucky ones to not yet have a blown gasket but i'm predicting it soon lol

how many kms does your car have? AU's are usually pretty good and last a fair while.

Blowing head gaskets is caused by the iron block and the alloy head expanding and contracting at different rates over a heat cycle over a long period of time. or by overheating the car to extent where the head warps and no longer sits flat and seals to the block.
The number one way to avoid blowing head gaskets is to keep the cooling system in top condition. alfy mentioned pretty much all the ways to tell if your gasket is stuffed. Doing a compression test will allow you to confirm this but wont prevent it from eventually happening.

I did a run on the car today.
It's a duel fuel car.. On LPG the "chugging" is very evident. On Petrol, the "chugging" is still there but less so
