Don't think so mate?, it has to come to the top of the tank before it follows the chassis rail

A bit of fuel should come out if you haven't depressurised the fuel line prior to removing the end nuts. It should also squirt like b**ch initially due to the pressure in the line.

I'm going to take a guess and there should be about 200mL of fuel in the line including inside the filter if the line is still under pressure. If it isn't under pressure, maybe 100mL.

But yes there should be a bit of fuel left in the line and there should be a bit of dripping...however if it continues to drip after 200mL, I'd say plug it up and disconnect the hose from the fuel pump.

I reckon a bit will come out however you go about it, so obviously take basic precautions (not smoke, clean up spills, fire extinguisher handy). Get everything ready first (tools, unwrap filter etc.), plan on doing it in one smooth go. Dont overtighten things, check for leaks after pressurising the system (ignition on), and after a test run.
You'll be right.

Don't forget to undo the petrol cap first, it should release some of the residual line pressure.

from memory the fuel filter is towards the back...

I'm assuming the fuel filter is in the same location as the E-series, so rear passenger side. Just make sure you depressurise the fuel line by either removing the fuel pump relay or unplugging the fuel pump directly, accessible from the boot, and starting the car till it dies. If it doesn't start at all then there shouldn't be much pressure in the line.

As mentioned before you can remove the petrol tank cap to help reduce pressure.

Make sure you use the correct size spanner, not a shifter. You will round off the nut and that will make the task only more difficult.

If you plan on lying right underneath the fuel filter while undoing the nut, wear safety goggles...petrol in eyes burn.
