Like does the whole wiring have to be replaced in the car or is there other ways to do this.

I think it would depend which type of fuel injection syustem you've been able to get. If its jettronic, I think its not too complicated. The full on systems with smartlock and central locking and stuff I think you'd have to change the whole harness and computer. I'm having much the same kinds of drama as you describe, and so thats just based on my experience with it.

Im talking about the efi out of an xf fairmont with the alloy tappet cover.
LOL hope that helps. |

It should say on the computer box what it is. I think the EEC's are all rectangle connector, maybe the jettronic is round... not entirely sure.
I get the impression its best to swap the whole harness and computer, just deal with 5 or 6 wires at ignition (keyswitch). My experience, trying to change bits and pieces leads to very fancy car wrecks. |

just thought they might of ran the same wiring harness.
But soulds like its a big job to replace the wiring. Is the ecu harness seporate to the cars wireing harness. |

If you have the webber and an XF you may be lucky : the head may already have the injector cutouts.
Otherwise a head change is in order. You can bolt the EFI manifolds straight up (XF ones) - and if you wanted to do something interesting Id go with an EA/B ECU rather than the XF one and get rid of the Air Flow Metre. use EB Sensors. The XF EFI Dizzy may be the same as the EA/B one as they moved to EST during that time. So just later model wiring, Air and Temp sensors. Bit of a project, but interesting. |

Thanks Nigel so on my xf right now all the wiring should be there for the older EFI is that right all i have to do is bolt up the new head and wires sould all be there is that right.
Or not that easy. My XF is a 1984 panelvan did have a 3.3 ltr in it but now it has a 4.1 ltr. |

Hang on to the 3.3 engine... I imagine there are plenty that will disagree, but I've found the 3.3 goes faster and handles high revs a bit better than the 4.1 (but obviously delivers less power). A mate of mine reckons its the square bore that helps balance it nicer.

honestly, i wouldnt bother with the XF vintage EFI, way too many dramas with aging electronics

Ok i think ill just stick with the 4.1 and weber. It goes well just uses alot of petrol.

in good condition, a carby fed 4.1 is pretty reasonable when it comes to fuel, only problems that cause excess fuel consumption with them are either an excessively heavy right foot, or a carby that needs replacing/rebuilding
EFI 4.1's are a little better on fuel, but the moment ANYTHING goes out of whack, be it a temp sensor, vacuum leak ANYWHERE on the motor (try pulling oil the cap off while the engine is running, it will stall) or even problems with the airflow meter (sticky, dirty contacts, corrosion, etc) will see your fuel economy vanish, and fixing the problems with an EFI will give you grey hairs, send your bank balance further into the red and see your wife leave! |
