What mod's do you have?

Anyone will tell you a stockish Windsor doe's not effectively/nor like to rev past 4,500rpm anyway's..there is no point with them doing so as power drops off at around 4,100....

But cam, explorer mani, gt40p or trickflow heads = AIRFLOW so that's a different story - still not a revvy motor though- and was never meant to be.

I've got my rev limiter set at 6000rpm, but never take it there unless by accident. It's hit it a few times and I have about 220k on the clock. From what I understand, the hydraulic lifters don't like to go over 6000rpm anyway as that's where valve float begins to happen. I'm just going from what I've read and don't have any real-world experience with this.

You have solid lifters then?

Can you give us a run down on your engine specs?

Can you not get a bigger MAF?

I wouldn't go past 6k unless you've fitted HP rod bolts like ARP. If you have then 6.2k will be OK for short bursts so long as your valvetrain is capable like you say it is. Revs break engines and rod bolts are the most critical fastener in the engine. Following the rod bolts, the next best insurance is a full balance job.

Assuming it was built and balanced correctly the bottom end shouldn't pose any problems even up to 7000rpm. Still haven't stated whether a solid cam is being run?

Believe it or not the rods are usually fine.. Its the piston speed that breaks pistons...
If it breaths and pulls all the way through?? 6500 is fine as long as valves etc are hanging in there..
When rods break ?? There is usually something else that caused it !!
Often a broken valve, run bearing etc..
Std heads ?? pulling more than 5000 rpm is a waste of time!!
Sad really when the 5.0 has a nice bore stroke ratio and cannot rev to it's ability...
Due to very restrictive induction...
YET the 6's with their LONG stroke could actually rev much higher..

I wouldn't worry about EL GT extractors. Sounds like you'll be needing some Defilippo 1 3/4", 4 into 1s.

What have you done to the bottom end?

It'd be a toss up between the Defilippos or Pacemaker tri-ys. A lot of people would argue the Defilippos will be too big and they could be right, but I'm pretty happy with the performance I'm getting out of them. I'll be trying the tri-ys in a few weeks and will be doing a dyno comparison to see what the difference is.

I didn't think we'd be able to run lift as high as you have on engines like ours with stock bottom end. I might start looking for a bigger cam...
