I emailed Phill at surecam and this was his reply:

Joe,
semi finished billet cams are available for the AUIII VVC but there's not much info on that engine.
Supercharged engines don't normally gain from moving the intake timing around and are generally not sensitive to cam advance and retard until the duration is increased significantly. I think you would have a lot better result if you eliminated the vvc option and ran with a fixed cam timing. That would be a more tried and proven system with proven results, the vvt is still a grey area for most tuners.
The short answer is YES I can grind a cam for you.

I called him to clarify and he mentioned that crow make a VCT cam, but without great tuning success. The dual VCT on the BA onwards are easy to cam, but single VCT cam in AU's are not.

Having said that, he can and will do a billet VCT grind if you want, but recommends deactivating the VCT going with a conventional cam. A lot on this site who run the conventional surecams seem to get quite good results. Billets are around $495 + $15 freight.

Would be worth a phone call if you're looking.

Joe

i have a supercharged vct engine and i have also disabled the vct function and fitted a std au xr6 cam instead..
i found it performed better all round with the non vct cam with boost...

but in the au vct its a pretty crude set up..
it only advances and retards the cam so many deg at set rpm.
its not really a true variable set up.

I think you could get it to work better than a standard set up for n/a purposes, but would involve a lot of f**k around.

I'm thinking more for those with grumpy cams to improve bottom end driveability. If I do another i6 rebuild (heaven forbid lol) I will be having a play with vct.
