Hey guys, I bought an AU gear knob off of Ebay and I got it today, tried screwing it into my EB (with EL box) and the thread on the AU knob is bigger and it just slides up and down without screwing in at all?

What can I do about this? Buy an AU gear stick? I don't really want to glue it on there because I am getting a leather boot soon so I will need to take the boot off.

Well.. I'm doubting the fact that thats actually designed to fit the AU stick then, as I know EA to BA threads are all the same.

Not entirely correct AU to BA are the same thread, EA to EL are the same,

drill out the thread in the gearknob, then buy the correct thread insert (i got mine from Mazda spare parts $13) and hammer the C*** in..... will save you wasting $50 on a gearknob that doesnt fit

How sure are you? My EF gknob fits the AU shortened stick perfectly fine... BA XR gknob fits the stock length EF stick...

you can wrap nitto tape round the stick (try make it a lil bit thick) then make a new thread into the tape. it works surprisingly well ive done it myself

Yeah might try the nitto tape as a temp fix, then I might cut and drill it. The stock stick is too long anyways.

I dunno, I reckon this is a weird knob, the thread seems really deep... Does anyone know where I can get thread inserts for it?
