i would say the rings are starting to go..and its probably suffering from blow by when cold.
i had the same issue with my old ed engine, after about 10 seconds of running if you gave it a rev heaps of blue smoke would bellow out the exhaust, and after a short time it would clear up a bit..
but still was blowing a little smoke all the time..

one more question ,is there a good chance the rings will fail soon or just keep chugging out smoke when cold ,i do around 900kms a week ,should i get an engine asap or have i a bit of time.

it will probably just slowly get worse and worse untill it starts fouling the spark plugs.
when i removed my engine it was using 5 ltrs of oil every 500 kms..lol and was startng to foul the plugs on 2 cylinders at start up..

so it will probably still go for a while before it dies completely..

best to cover your bases, start looking for another motor and have it ready to go for when your finally dies, It will die, its just time. then you have options you can either rebuild the spare, or buy a good known spare.

Either way I would work on having one on hand. if you don't you just know its gonna fail and cost ya a bit.

But as Troy has said, it certainly sounds like rings, My eb does the same, new motor is being built as we speak, My probe did the same, took a chance a put a low km motor in, and you know it, on a clod start I get 30 seconds of smoke, I think my case is valve stem seals though.

EB is definatly rings though. Boost has killed them.

If it hasn't had regular oil changes all its life...motor is buggered, or another one i saw was an old guy bought the car new, never revved it, got sold, then some young dude buys it, floggs it, then the top rings break, starts chewing oil. :?
