Hey fellas,

I have a El fairmont on gas its a 1997 model, i have changed the thermostate and hoses etc. coolant isnt that old. I have this feeling that its done a head gasket. My oil isnt merky yet. But the temperature gauge fluctuates up to hot ( over heating point ) and back down to normal temp. The overflow bottle fills itself to the top and then a few seconds later it all drops down and is normal for a bit. Still driveable but worries me when that happens

If anyone has any advice what it could be. Id appreciate your help

Can you hear your thermo fans kicking in?

yep, thermos work fine, oil level is fine and idle isnt rough

Possible air in the system? That could explain the overflow tank filling then emptying. Just a suggestion.

Try flushing the whole system properly.

Could be your water pump. I had one go in my XF and this is how it showed itself.
