I have a question regarding the oil consumption in my 5.0 NC Fairlane.
Firstly the engine runs really really well, no knocks, taps or any sign of smoke. it makes good power and clearly still has reasonable compression given the way it can still make the car move. It is leaking oil through the Dipstick tube, a reasonable amount too (the oil loss can vary from one week to another with the same driving conditions which is odd?) to stop the leak on my driveway i made up a catch can with a hose over the dipstick tube to catch the oil which is working well. i normally run 20-50 or 20-60 oil in the car with regular changes my question is what do people think is wrong with the engine? will i fix this problem by running say HPR40 (25W70)? thanks Jason |

if its blowing oil out the dip stick first check that the pcv is working and the rockercover breather is working/not blocked..
if they are it sounds like your definatly getting blow by from atleast 1 or all cylinders even though your engine may feel strong! i think its compression test time... |

Lucas oil stabilizer will help when you do a service, my v8 has exactly the same symptoms as yours and i use it.
Dont fill the oil up to the very top and it will help with leaking dipstick issue, my car also does this.
