Have you checked the end float on the crank since this fellow had it re-sleeved? I'd have a look at the thrust bearings to see if they have bad wear. Also measure the crank journal where the knock was worst. Possible out of round since the re-sleeve caused by a twisting motion and forces on that journal. My guess is that the motors bores are not in centre with the crank and the journals. Motor will have to come out and measure everything to make sure it's right unless you get lucky and find something simpler giving him grief.

lucky owner of disco V8.firstly dont buy one as it would cost you more than its worth.secondly,i have been tinkering with motors for many years and this ones got me stumped.cylinder 7 has the knock...piston to liner clearance 1.5 thou......suspect main bearing.....1.8 thou clearance......big end..1.5 thou clearance ....bearings look ..ok...no excessive crankshaft movement....could it be low oil pressure causing the knock??????? wrist pin was also found to be ok. any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have had to bring my xr8 out of retirement because of the unreliability of the rover. |
