I have a CPI engine 3.9 in and EB I, anyways I was wondering what is something to give the car a cheap thrill, should I go Cam work or something else. I am running a new sports exhaust with only the Centre Muffler and Cat and that has made little difference also is there anything I can do like with Rampods or something similar man I hae my engine :lol:

If anybody has any help and idea much appreciated.

Also while I am here, I have noticed a real rich smell coming through the cabin, and its even worse at a standstill, and then yesturday I got out of my car and the smell was really overpowering.......could It be the results of taking off the usual mufflers or something far worse??

id say your car is running to rich. whats your economy like?

the first mod i would do before any other performance mods would be to convert to MPFI. the improvements that you make are really restricted by the CFI setup. after that change the cam. wade 1004 @ 114 seems to be common.

What does it cost converting it to MPFI?

I am already undergoing changing the Clutch fan to twin thermos off and AU which I have been told will give the engine a couple more k's and hour or have I been givin wrong info.

Also I am getting about 500k's + a tank on long trips and about 450k's with what I like to call "Spirited" driving around town.

If you want to be thrown "back into your seat" go up in diff ratio. It will make your fuel economy worse, but increase your acceleration and actually put less stress on your drive train,

is there such thing as a two speed diff?? the earlier ambulances had them right? Or am i dreaming?

sorry to hijack the thread.

Oh i got an eb mpfi (all stocko 250,000k's), i have driven a EB I CPFI with 180,000 and they are slugs, The transmission was rebuilt 5200k's before the drive too. So i'd say MPFI all the way if it turns out cost effective for you. Did you get quoted on the thermo fans?? i really wanna do this.


And the last q: Are the ford sixes prone to the water pumps dying because of the massive "747 compressor blade" fan mounted on them??

i've only heard of em on trucks... they made for cars as well?

that is very good fuel economy for CFI. im lucky to get that on MPFI. the cost of converting my Old EA was around $100 but that is because i already had an ECU the right fuel pump and the correct MPFI dizzy. if you had to buy those as well it should only come to around $200-250.

To Foulcoon,

You can get them for like $120 at the wreckers.. the adjustable switch was like $59 and about $39 for two relays and wiring and 4
long thin bolts I used what they call a mounting kit see attached picture..

It’s not that hard .. the AU fans have to be turned upside down and the two
mounts cut off the top so it sits down and two pieces of rubber attached to
the sides to block the air.

But getting back to the problem at hand, my CFI has amazing fuel economy, it matches my Mums AU so I have no complaints there,

Does it only cost $300 to set up MPFI ? if so that is amazing, I was thinking around the $1000 mark.

Also I have passed 200kph a couple of times and that max on that is 200, I know that has nothing to do with anything, but It might help.

When I bought the car off the family michanic, he said its a little different to most CPI engines getting around, its not really a slug yet its not a monster, I guess Im looking for a Tiger......... :lol:

Can anyone tell me how much it does cost to change CPFI to MPFI, I guess I am after someone who has done it, to give me a rough Idea on what it cost including labour??
