Hello
I was wondering if anyone knows whats involved in installing a 400M and C6 into an XF/XE/XD ute?? it doesnt have to pass an engineers or anything, it will probably end up a burnout car. I'd like to try and put it in using off the shelf parts if possible. Cheers David

I would assume ?? Not too much different to 351c except 1" taller deck engine and b/block bell housing bolt patern...
Keep heads COOL as they detonated with any excuse.. Colder, short electrode plugs also.. I guess some mods to extractors ??

If you got extremely lucky you might find a one with sbf bellhousing bolt pattern, but they are rare.
Obviously bonnet clearance will be a problem, as will headers I imagine due to the taller deck height if trying to use those for 351c. Did c6's come in the bbf pattern?

I've got a BBF pattern block, out of a RHD galaxy (??) uncle buck looking thing..
Been told its a C6 auto, with the 'fins' on the top and bell housing... Ive been told that because it has cast manifolds fitted to RHD aust cars, it should fit any steeringbox'd falcons.. or somthing.. Cheers David

You've got a C6 which is good.
The 400's use a different engine mount; bigblock style. You'll find that ordinary Falcon cleveland exhaust manifolds will likely be the easiest fit but the 10.2" deck means it'll be tight(small cleveland is 9.2")...this is what a mate of mine used back in the 80's in his XE and I think this is why it never really went that hard(my 302w XR was quicker). If you want to wake it up cheaply stick 302C heads on it and get an Edelbrock performer 400 intake for it but it really needs extractors. You can also get spacers from the likes of Weiand/Holley to allow you to fit small cleveland intakes to the 400. |

hey, extractors do fit, i have pacemakers on my 400 in a xd. they do need to be modified at the bottom to fit through cut outs underneath. it is VERY tight though. have maybe an inch either side and bonnet clearance isnt an issue. i have impco 425 and a spacer on top of mine and it fits fine. however if you do try and use adaptor plates for small clevo manifold clearance will be a problem.
