what is a good watre temp i got a 85 xf x-flow and the gage reads 90 degres and the thermo fan cuts in at 95 degres is the engine my brother says thats to hot is he right or is this normal operating temp for this engine. thanks

Bout right, if possible drop the fan temp by 2-3, but I wouldnt worry about it!

yes it will particularly if it's a cheap one (lower duty cycle) not to mention load the alternator, wiring & battery.
running the fan more often won't cool the engine anymore anyway, thats the thermostats job. can have all the cold water in the world, it's no good if you can't get it running through the engine. i think the reason earlier cars suffer from the heat from thermo conversions is that they were designed to run clutch fans, with constant airflow through the bay and without it you loose that. having said that after adding appropriate heat shielding i've neer had a mechanical problem in doing so. if your cooling system is effecient that temperature should be fine.
