Ok ive blown the head gasket and hopefully the hydraulic lock isnt as bad as some people are telling me.
Anyway since i have to change the gasket what do you all recomend most are telling me to goth with the AU metal gasket for more compression ut im going to shave the heads down to minimum for this reason. should i do both(shave and Au gasket) or will this bump up my compression to high. ive never done a head before so anyones input would be greatly appreciated. thank-you

I dunno what you mean about min? as in as much as you can take off? if so, its not a very good idea... too much compression causes all sorts of drama's. the AU's ran 9.6:1 compression, I would stick with that, or 10:1. and that would probably need premium unleaded to stop the pinging.
Talk to your local workshop, they'll know what to do. And AU head gaskets are quite strong, so use that if you can. Cheers

just take not
if you get an AU vrs kit, the rocker cover gasket will not fit, as they fit the opposite way around. also your ed probably has the half moons in the gasket, so there is no way it would fit anyway just something to be aware of.

What has been hydraulic locked?
I wasnt under the impression AU gaskets raised compression? As justfordima said, going to high, without other mods, will not be good. EF had 9.3, and the XR had 9.35. ED was 8.8? |

ED was 8.8 yep. same as EBII.
The AU head gasket, is a two piece metal gasket with cork in between? whatever it is, the whole gasket is "skinnier" meaning that the head is closer to the block, raising compression. Cheers

Cheers There's about a bee's d**k difference. They're a bit stronger, and no mess to clean up when u change them

OK, so the raise in compression would be 0.5? if that? i will use when eventually, cause they are steel, and no mess.

Maybe not even that much.

I've got the AUII XR6 VCT motor. ITS Performance shaved 45 thou off the head (Stage 3PS kit). I am running 12.2:1 compresion.

Shugg I've had .060" off my head, plus some off the block, and i'm at 11.7:1. Depends which rod and piston combo was used in the rebuild.

That can be repaired. It would be worth checking the cost of repairing it compared to replacing it.
