The fuel gauge on my EF wagon has always read about 1/4 tank too high in the 5 years I have owned it. I came across the following quote in an online auction for an EF sedan: "Got a new fuel pump about 12 months ago, done by Ford Timaru but when I got it back fuel gauge was misreading by about a quarter of a tank, as my wife found out when she ran out of petrol." Seems I'm not alone.
It this a common problem? Any advice on how to fix it? Thanks all.

You may need to remove your pump and check that it is in the same position as the original. This is a massive PITA but if done correctly could save you a couple of walks home.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will take a look when I get a chance to drain the tank.
Cheers

Had this problem after install my Walbro GS 345 or whatever it was called.. I was positive I had put the sender and float in the stock spot..
and then later had issues with spark, which I thought was an injector failing. I used 500ml of the flashlube injector cleaner, and over the week the sender started to read correctly!! Later fixed the miss by finding out my no.3 spark lead was broken. I figured the flashlube stuff is pretty potent, and it may have cleaned the resistor on the send unit? Either way it fixed it. |
