The fuel gauge on my EF wagon has always read about 1/4 tank too high in the 5 years I have owned it. I came across the following quote in an online auction for an EF sedan: "Got a new fuel pump about 12 months ago, done by Ford Timaru but when I got it back fuel gauge was misreading by about a quarter of a tank, as my wife found out when she ran out of petrol." Seems I'm not alone.

It this a common problem? Any advice on how to fix it? Thanks all.

It can be a common problem when aftermarket fuel pumps are used. You may need to remove your pump and check that it is in the same position as the original. This is a massive PITA but if done correctly could save you a couple of walks home. :D

Thanks for the suggestion. I will take a look when I get a chance to drain the tank. :?

Cheers

Had this problem after install my Walbro GS 345 or whatever it was called.. I was positive I had put the sender and float in the stock spot..

and then later had issues with spark, which I thought was an injector failing. I used 500ml of the flashlube injector cleaner, and over the week the sender started to read correctly!! Later fixed the miss by finding out my no.3 spark lead was broken.

I figured the flashlube stuff is pretty potent, and it may have cleaned the resistor on the send unit? Either way it fixed it.
